The second edition of the Charlotte Edwards Cup will kick off on Saturday, May 14 and as many as four matches will be played on the opening day. One of the four matches will be played between Western Storm and Central Sparks at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff from 7 PM IST. While, Western Storm had finished second in Group B of the inaugural edition in 2021, Central Sparks found themselves at the third spot in Group A.
The format of the women's 20-over competition which has been named after former England Women captain Charlotte Edwards involves a round-robin style wherein each of the eight teams will meet the other three teams in its pool twice (home and away). One of the two group winners with maximum points will go straight into the finals. The other group winner will clash against the best second-paced team among the two pools. The last edition of the tournament was won by Group A table-toppers South East Stars. Charlotte Edwards Cup 2022 will be played between May 14 to June 11. While we get ready for this fixture, let us have a look at the top team bet from the WS vs CS head-to-head encounter.
Mentioned below is the top team bet from the WS vs CS head-to-head contest.
There was no Western Storm versus Central Sparks (WS vs CS) encounter during the inaugural edition as the two teams were placed in different pools, and also because none of them qualified for the knockout stage. Western Storm won four league matches to finish second behind Northern Diamonds in Group B. However, they could not qualify for the semifinal according to the tournament rules as Southern Vipers finished second in Group A with two more points than Storm. Central Sparks, on the other hand, won three and lost as many matches and never looked settled as a unit. Western Storm are most certainly going to come all guns blazing to get over their unlucky end in the 2021 edition of the Charlotte Edwards Cup. Central Sparks batting woes are well known and Storm will look to exploit it to make a winning start this season. CS were bowled out inside hundred runs twice in their six league matches. On one occasion, they took as many as 19 overs to chase down an 82-run target in 19 overs. The fact that Gwenan Davies, who scored 63 runs in 6 matches, was the most successful Sparks batter, highlights the amount of hard work the team needs to do in the second edition. Storms will again count on the likes of Sophie Luff and Georgia Hennessy who contributed generously with 127 and 121 runs respectively last season. Luff has scores of 157*, 70 and 65 in her last three outings. With Central Sparks lacking strength in the bowling department also, Western Storm, who are unbeaten in their last three outings, are the clear favourites in the WS vs CS match.
