On Tuesday, the Kerala Government informed the state High Court that they have already proposed to remove the special exemption given to online rummy games according to a provision of the Kerala Gaming Act, 1960.
A state government pleader Aravid Babu made a submission to revoke the exemption on Rummy games when a petition seeking to ban the online games came up for hearing. As a matter of fact, recently, Tamil Nadu Government banned all kinds of Online real-money games, initiating a discussion on a very sensitive issue.
Petitioner Pauly Vadakkan of Thrissur wrote in his submission that gambling through online platforms has now become a growing problem as people are losing lots of money on online gaming with the endorsement made by celebrities.
The petitioner pleaded, seeking a directive to ban all forms of online gambling and online betting till an appropriate regulatory regime was put in place. Following that, the state government internally decided to remove the exemption given to online rummy games.
The State Government informed the High Court that the State Police Chief had already given a proposal regarding the same and now the framework will be released in due course of time.
