Cricket insignificant in current situation, says Aaron Finch

Australian batsman Aaron Finch has admitted that cricket is insignificant at this moment with the Australian bushfires still haunting the entire nation. The tragedy which originated in New South Wales, has already claimed the lives of more than a billion animals while over 1300 homes have been destroyed. The Australian ODI skipper feels that there are times when cricket takes a back seat and this is one such situation.

The long lasting bush fire has been devastating for Australia as a nation

"Obviously, it's very unfortunate what's happening in Australia. With everyone affected by bushfires around Australia, cricket is insignificant to what's happening there. Lot of life has unfortunately perished,” Finch said as reported by the Times of India.

The Australian Cricket Team is currently in Mumbai for a three-match ODI series starting this Tuesday. Australian sports persons have been deeply affected by the turn of events and are contributing in whatever way it’s possible. The players in the ongoing Big Bash League have also made remarkable gestures and helped out financially to keep the current situation in control. Finch aims that his team plays some good cricket and brings back smiles for the people back in Australia.

“All we can do is, as players, try and bring some performances and excitement and smiles back on the faces of the people," added Finch.

Sharing his views on the upcoming ODI series, Finch pointed out that it is going to be ‘exciting’ to see how Marnus Labuschagne plays in the away fixtures. Lanbuschagne has had a remarkable year in 2019, having scored 896 runs in the last five Tests.

"If you look at his domestic ODI record, it is very good. He has batted in the top four for Queensland, and the way that our ODI competition is being structured for the last few years, there are wickets similar to those in the subcontinent, where they are slower and spin a bit. And for him, to be averaging 40 in domestic cricket is brilliant. Hopefully, he can bring that (form) from the Tests," said the Australian skipper.
