WBBL franchise Sydney Sixers have been dealt a body blow with star all-rounder Ellyse Perry set to be ruled out of action for up to three weeks with a shoulder injury.
All is not well in the Sydney Sixers franchise, as just a day after suffering an agonizing last-ball defeat against Melbourne Renegades, they have now been dealt a body blow with ace all-rounder Ellyse Perry set to be out of action for up to three weeks due to a shoulder injury she sustained in the team’s two-wicket defeat against the Melbourne-based franchise on Sunday.
The Sixers, on Monday, confirmed that the 29-year-old suffered a low-grade AC injury to her right shoulder after falling heavily on her shoulder, which might potentially rule her out of action for the rest of the group stage matches. Despite the fall, Perry did not go off the field and it is still unclear whether she aggravated the injury due to the same.
But despite Perry’s injury, thanks to the Sixers’ 100% record against Hobart Hurricanes, the bookmakers have the Pinks as clear favorites against the Cane Train, having given them odds of 1.53 to register their seventh win of the season.
Perry has officially been ruled out of the game against Hobart Hurricanes on November 20 and is expected to undergo further assessment later in the week. However, she is expected to be fit in time for the knockout matches should the Sixers qualify, with them only commencing from December 7. With 469 runs to her name, Perry is the second-highest run-getter of WBBL 2019. She was also the highest run-getter in the 2018 edition of the tournament, having struck an astonishing 777 runs in just 16 matches.
But one cricketer’s misfortune is an opportunity for another to shine, and hence this might just be the perfect opportunity for Alyssa Healy to come out of Perry’s shadow and stake her claim as the Sixers’ best batter. With 287 runs to her name, Healy is the Sixers’ second-highest run-getter so far this season and hence in Perry’s absence, the bookmakers are inclining heavily towards Healy being Sydney Sixers’ top batsman, giving her astonishing odds of 2.30 to top score on Wednesday against Hobart Hurricanes.
