Bangalore-based Mobile Premier League (MPL) is hosting a speed chess tournament called #CheckmateCovid for COVID-19 relief in association with Karnataka Chess Association and Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Government of Karnataka. The tournament will be held from May 2-3, 2020.
The proceeds of the chess tournament will be donated to the Karnataka Chief Minister’s COVID Relief Fund.
Sri CT Ravi, Minister of Youth Empowerment & Sports, Tourism, Kannada & Culture, Government of Karnataka announced the tournament in a promotional video and asked users to play to contribute to the Karnataka CM’s relief fund. Players can register for this speed chess tournament from 27th April onwards on the MPL app that can be downloaded from www.mpl.live.
The chess tournament has an entry fee of Rs. 50. One winning player will get a prize of Rs. 1 Lakh, the second place player will get a prize of Rs. 50,000, and the third place player will win Rs. 20,000. The total prizes to be given away during the tournament will be worth Rs. 10 Lakhs. Here’s the breakup of the winnings that players can bag:
MPL hosts over 40+ games, fantasy sports and tournaments where players can win cash. Some of these games are Rummy, Poker, Ludo, PUBG, Chess, Pool, Fantasy Cricket, Quizzes, and Runner No.1. MPL also recently added WCC Rivals to its collection of cricket games.
