The Pimpri Chinchwad police, that busted a betting racket during the India-England series last month, has now arrested three more people for taking bets online during an Indian Premier League match. The culprits got into an altercation with the police while one suspect escaped during the raid.
The Pimpri Chinchwad crime squad received a tip-off last week that a group of men was accepting digital wagers for the IPL game. Following the information, the police raided a spot in Akurdi to arrest three men. They got into an altercation as an officer later explained “the trio abused the policemen and also tried to push them in an attempt to escape from the spot."
Following their arrest, the police further registered one more case as abuse to the police during the raid and then booked them under the India Penal Code, Indian Telegraph Act, Epidemic Diseases Act, and Maharashtra Covid-19 rule.
The Pimpri Chinchwad police arrested a number of individuals over illegal betting recently and earlier in the year, the police had recovered cash and gambling equipment after raiding an online lottery and video game parlor.
