Former England cricketer Andrew Strauss has raised his voice

Recent developments which hint at a possible introduction of 4-day Test matches, abolishing the traditional format is a topic of debate. The former skipper feels that the 5-day Tests should not be tampered if there are not many people ready to accept that. Tweaking the century old format for the sake of it might not be healthy for the game.

The cricket Test format to remain the same

"If you asked how many people want to reduce Test matches down from five days to four, the answer is probably not that many. His isn't something that is being proposed with an agenda behind it. No one wants to change for the sake of it. It should be an easy sell or we shouldn't be doing it," said Strauss as reported by the Guardian.

Looking at the current situation, the former cricketer feels that the bigger picture should be taken into consideration and make Test cricket more ‘healthy,’ pointing out that some of the nations are struggling to support the red-ball format financially.

"My gut feeling is that we should be looking at the whole picture, how Test cricket can be looking as healthy as possible in future, then work back from that. "We shouldn't assume Test cricket is healthy just because it is popular in England. In lots of parts of the world boards are struggling financially and Test cricket is not paying the bills. So we have to look at ways to improve the product for all,” added the Brit.

Recently, Virat Kohli opposed the idea of having 4-day Test matches along with former cricketers like Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar and Glenn McGrath. But, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on the contrary has favoured it.
