India making the ICC Test Championships final is ‘highly likely’

Cricket Australia Chief Executive Kevin Roberts is of the thought that India will make it to the final of the ICC Test Championship in 2021.

India is currently on a rampage, having won 7 out of 7 matches in the ongoing ICC Test World Championships and is sitting head and shoulders above all the teams at the pole position. Cricket Australia Chief Executive Kevin Roberts believes that Kohli and Co. would undoubtedly make to the final of the championships in 2021 scheduled to be played in the United Kingdom.

"India to their credit are doing very well in this World Test Championship, and it's highly likely that they will make the final in 2021,” said Kevin Roberts.

After giving a miss to the Day/Night Tests, India finally played their first against Bangladesh in Kolkata last month. Even though the match was lopsided, the pink ball Test sent echoes to all parts of the country. India is yet to play one away from home and Cricket Australia have a feeling that India might agree on playing a pink ball test during their tour next year if they are certain of making to the final of the Test Championship.

"I suspect that will make it easier to schedule a day-night Test next season if India has relative certainty of making the WTC final, then there is less reason not to play a day-night Test and more reason to play one," added Roberts.

"I absolutely believe we should be playing one pink-ball Test in the Indian series next year.”

India next assignment is a two-match Test series away to New Zealand in February. Following which the focus will shift to the Indian Premier League and the World T20 in Australia in October next year. The fixtures of India’s tour of Australia are yet to be announced.
