‘Pakistan security is giving us 100%,’ asserts Dimuth Karunaratne

Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne asserts that Pakistan is now safe for playing cricket during their tour to the country after a decade. During their visit in 2009, a group of terrorists opened fire at the Sri Lankan team and officials on their way to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, which left many severely injured. But the batsman now feels that the security provided in Pakistan makes them feel safe.

"The guys who are giving us security, they are giving us not just 100% but more than 100%. That's why we feel really good. We went out for dinner as well. I can say that Pakistan is now safe for cricket,” said the cricketer as reported by ESPNCricinfo.

After a rain-curtailed Test match in Rawalpindi, the teams are currently playing the 2nd match of the series in Karachi. Karunaratne also regretted their decision to pull out of the ODI series earlier this year.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is striving hard to bring regular cricket in their nation. As per reports, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is sending a team to Pakistan in February 2020. There have also been talks with Bangladesh and are likely to pay a visit to the nation sometime in the next eight weeks. The Pakistan Super League is also expected to be staged at home in the following season.

"Now I do regret not coming for the shorter formats. At that time, it was a really hard decision to take, because I had heard and read lots of things about Pakistan on news and social media - not positive things. But the guys who came here before gave really good comments and that's why all the seniors decided to go and play a good Test series. Now I think I should have come and played the one-dayers," concluded Karunaratne.
