A last-ball six, a Beth Mooney special, a Sophie Devine masterclass and a crazy Sydney Thunder collapse. Phew, this WBBL weekend had it all, testing the fans’ every last nerve, and I’m grateful for the two-day break that will follow. It gives me the chance to reflect on the weekend action, recharge my mind (and my wallet, of course) and shift all my attention to the blockbuster early-morning Wednesday clash between the Heat and the Renegades. Two in-form teams never short of drama vying for a semi-final spot trading blows with each other? Oh boy, have I been waiting for this! Well, the good news is that my notebook just ran out of pages, but thankfully, I’ve already worked out all the numbers and zeroed in on the best bets that can be placed on this match. Oh don’t worry, of course, I’m going to share them with you!
Melbourne Renegades to win the match @ 2.10
I’m convinced that the Renegades, who pulled off a last-ball heist today, will be victorious against the Heat and I’m going to give you undebatable evidence for the same. Table toppers Brisbane, with 7 wins in 10 matches, will undoubtedly head into the match as clear favourites, but it is important to note that Renegades are also in a hot streak, having won their last three games. In addition to this, the women from Melbourne also have their number over the Heat in H2H encounters, having won a staggering 4 of their last 5 clashes. In fact, last season’s champions Brisbane ended their campaign in rich vein of form - W W L W W W W. The L, of course, was handed by none other than Renegades. The Junction Oval, where the match will be played at, has been an absolute fortress for the Renegades, with them not having lost a match there since Dec 2, 2018. So far this season, they’ve won all three of their matches at the venue. Ominous signs for Brisbane, if there ever was any! Melbourne Renegades have already punched above their weight twice this season, beating both the Sixers and the Strikers, so with form, conditions and the H2H record in their favour, I have unbounded faith on them to end the Brisbane Heat juggernaut on Wednesday.
Beth Mooney to be Brisbane Heat’s top batsman @ 2.10
There are three certainties in life - Death, Taxes and Beth Mooney top scoring for the Heat. As of this moment, Mooney is to WBBL 2019 what Steve Smith was to the 2019 Ashes - an illimitable run machine who just won’t stop scoring. When a batsman is in form, we hear commentators go on about the law of averages, but “what law of averages?” asks Mooney, who averages a startling 87.16 in 10 innings this season. With 523 runs, she is the highest run-getter of this WBBL season and she has literally been twice as good as every other Heat batter this season; the second highest run-getter for the Heat is Jess Jonassen, who has scored 318 runs fewer than Mooney. Mooney is coming on the back of scores which read 60*, 22, 70*, 25, 77* and 73 and has been Brisbane’s ‘top batsman’ in a staggering SEVEN of their ten matches so far this season. As if this isn’t enough, she was also their top batsman in the last H2H clash and with 293 runs, is the all-time highest run-getter in Renegades vs Heat matches. I rest my case.
Brisbane Heat to have the highest opening partnership @ 1.80
These two teams might share a similarity or two when it comes to their ruthlessness and overall quality, but one area where they’re at the two extreme ends of the spectrum is the opening partnership. We are talking about Brisbane Heat, who arguably have the most destructive opening pair in the tournament, competing with Melbourne Renegades, whose opening combination has been non-existent so far this season. The Heat have averaged 41.3 for their opening stand this season, which includes six opening stands of 40 runs or more, whilst the Renegades openers, across 9 innings, have added 40 runs or more for the first wicket JUST ONCE. In fact, while the Heat have averaged 45.6 for the first wicket in their last 5 innings, the Renegades have only managed a shocking 17.6. Renegades’ opening stand, however, was more than that of Heat’s in their last H2H clash, but well, Heat’s trump card, Beth Mooney, was not in quite the same form last season. Moreover, the Junction Oval has not been a happy hunting ground for the Renegades openers this season, who have only managed to put together stands of 12, 0 and 35 in three attempts this season at this venue. Thus it’s a no-brainer to back the Heat to yet again be clinical at the top of the order and I can assure you that your money will be safe and sound in the hands of Mooney and Maddy Green.
Now, here’s the fun part. You can either choose to bet on these separately and pick and choose them according to your own satisfaction, or you can parley them and aim for jackpot. Parleying them will leave you with odds of 7.938, meaning a $100 investment will give you returns of $793.8 instead of the $199.99 that you would get by placing the bets individually.
