Peshawar Zalmi have Pakistan’s best batter as captain. Babar Azam (PKR 7 Cr retention) brings his elite run-scoring and tactical brain to a squad with the deepest overseas batting in PSL 2026: Kusal Mendis (Sri Lanka), Michael Bracewell (New Zealand), Aaron Hardie (Australia), and James Vince (England). Sufiyan Muqeem’s chinaman is PSL’s most dangerous weapon. Left-arm wrist spin is the hardest delivery to read in T20 cricket. In PSL 2025, Muqeem took wickets at critical moments and kept economy rates under 7 on flat pitches. If teams have not solved him, he wins matches alone.

Four overseas bats mean they always have international quality at the crease. Mendis, Bracewell, Hardie, and Vince cover positions 2 through 5. Even if two fail, two should fire. That depth is rare in PSL.

Where They Could Struggle

Babar’s T20 strike rate remains a question. At ~130, he scores runs but sometimes not fast enough. In chase situations where 10+ runs per over are needed, his anchor approach can create impossible equations for partners. The best T20 teams have openers striking at 140+.

Only one home match (Peshawar). They play the rest across Lahore, Rawalpindi, and other venues without genuine home support. In a tournament where crowd energy matters, playing away for 43 of 44 matches is a disadvantage.

Six overseas players for four slots creates constant selection tension. Mendis vs Bracewell vs Hardie vs Vince. Someone good always misses out. Managing egos across a 6-week tournament is a coaching challenge.

Season Outlook

Peshawar have the individual talent to beat anyone on their day. Babar’s class, Muqeem’s mystery, and the overseas batting depth make them competitive. But the new franchise-captain combination, limited home matches, and selection headaches with overseas players could prevent them from gelling quickly enough.

At 7.50, they are neither overpriced nor clear value. Wait for the first 3-4 matches to assess whether Babar-as-captain is working before backing outright.
